Welcome to our final newsletter for 2024! We're wrapping up the year on a positive note and kicking off 2025 with a variety of exciting events for everyone.

This school holiday season, come to the library where children can tap into their creativity at our mini mobile workshop, discover the wonders of a microscope, engage in 3D printing, or participate in an interactive show about FOGO. While story time will be on pause during the holidays, feel free to bring your children to the library to beat the heat, borrow books, or join in on our exciting events.

Our library operating hours will change over the Christmas period; however, we have a variety of digital resources that you can continue to access. Check out Libby for eMagazines, Story Box Library for children's eBooks, and BorrowBox for family-friendly eBooks.

Dive into Summer Reading with Parra Pods

Welcome to the latest episode of Parra Pods, a podcast by the City of Parramatta Libraries for book lovers. In this episode, Erica is joined by Shelley, a children's book reviewer from the Children's Book Council of New South Wales, to discuss our Summer Reading Holiday Program for 2024 to 2025.

Microscope Explorers

In this drop in session children will learn how to use microscope to explore the hidden details of nature. They will examine preserved animals and plants encased in resin, allowing a close-up look at insects, leaves, flowers, and other fascinating specimens.

Introduction to 3D Printing

These workshops will give participants an introduction to the basics of 3D design and the printing process! After the lesson, library staff will print out the 3D object for collection the following week.

Mini Mobiles

Children can attend this session to choose from one of our mini wooden mobiles and unleash their inner artist using our paint stampers! We will be using easy stampers for painting and added extras like glitter and gemstones.

Meet and Feed It to FOGO Show

These interactive shows are a fun way for children and their families to learn more about FOGO, prepare for the changes and do their part for the environment.

Christmas Inspiration

New Year's Eve Event

Join us for a New Year’s Eve celebration at Parramatta Park! Enjoy a spectacular fireworks display and concert with Cut Copy and Bag Raiders DJ sets. Plus Dorothy the Dinosaur, food trucks, rides and fun activities. Free entry - wristbands required for select areas.

Skating at PHIVE

3 to 25 January: Take a roller skating lesson this Summer and twirl with friends, or rock and roll at our DJ sessions! PHIVE is transforming into a skate rink with skating experiences for tots, teens, skilled rollers, as well as adaptive sessions. From $10 inc skate hire!

Animal

Cirque Alfonse is bringing a hilarious musical for ages 3+ about childish grown-ups to Riverside! Book tickets for the family to witness many songs, funny quarrels, a bit of bickering and (eventually) a happy ending.
