Welcome to the second edition of the October eNewsletter. In this issue, you can read about our latest events, which include an Auslan interpreted author talk with Richard Glover, opportunites for seniors to improve their technology skills, composting workshops, and a monthly Auslan storytime for hearing impaired and hearing children aged birth to five years.

 

In this issue, you will also find some resources to help you find your next great read. You can view the latest book reviews on the Parra Reads blog or check out the Good Reading Magazine online for book recommendations. Are you looking for ways to encourage your child to read? You can access Comics Plus online, for thousands of graphic novels, comics and manga. There is a section, specifically designed to appeal to children under 14 years of age.

 

You still have a chance to complete our library survey to tell us your thoughts about the extended opening hours. Complete the survey by Sunday 15 October for your chance to win a gift card, valued at $100.

Author Talk: Richard Glover 

We are excited to announce that Richard Glover will join us to chat about his latest book
'Best Wishes'. Richard is on a mission to make the world a better, less annoying place, one wish at a time. This talk will be Auslan interpreted.

Tech Savvy Seniors

Tech Savvy Seniors program helps you to build the skills and confidence needed to effectively use computers, tablets and smartphones. Topics throughout October to November include internet use, computers (Korean), cybersafety (English & Mandarin), social media; email (Mandarin), and smartphones.

What is Dementia?

Join us at this information talk to learn about dementia, the symptoms and the causes. You will also find out about support services that can be accessed to help to manage the condition.

Composting Workshops 

Come to a composting workshop to learn about the traditional method of composting or delve into the practical Bokashi composting system, an eco-friendly alternative, designed to fit into small spaces!

Textile Recycling Workshop

Join us for an engaging Textile Recycling Workshop to explore the fascinating world of sustainable fashion and learn how to repurpose and recycle textiles in a creative and eco-friendly manner.

Auslan Storytime

Auslan Storytime is a unique storytelling experience that provides children with an opportunity to learn Auslan, the language of the Australian deaf community. Join our monthly storytime for hearing impaired and hearing children at Parramatta Library at PHIVE.        

Parra Reads

Check out our Parra Reads blog to find your next great read. This month we review some of Australia's most talented writers, which have been highlighted at the most recent Frankfurt Book Fair. We have picked some of our favourite authors and books for you to explore.
